Actions

Actions

An action is something your agent does for a user outside the conversation, such as creating a calendar event, cancelling one, or sending an email. Each action belongs to one of four kinds (nobody else affected, others affected, financial operation, and irreversible, such as deleting a file for good), and each kind has a setting that decides whether your agent acts, asks, or stops. The setting changes what happens before the step runs. It does not change what your agent decides to do.

What actions are

Your agent talks with a user and then does something for them. Moving the Acme pilot meeting for Nadia, or sending her a confirmation email, is an action.

Harny carries out the step within the permission and rules you set. Your agent decides what to do. Harny does not.

Four kinds of action

KindMeaning
Nobody else affectedChanges only the user's own account, like adding an event to their own calendar.
Others affectedReaches other people, like a calendar invite sent to guests, a cancellation, or a payment to a supplier.
Financial operationAny charge, payment, refund, discount or credit, money in or out, any amount.
IrreversibleAnything that can't be undone once done, like deleting a file for good.

Three settings

You choose one setting for each kind. A kind with no setting chosen is not carried out.

SettingWhat your agent does
Act without askingDoes these on its own.
Ask the user firstAsks the user first, in the app your users use, and goes ahead only if they say yes.
Never allowedNever does these.

How a step is decided

If an action fits more than one kind, the strictest setting applies. Say your agent moves the Acme pilot budget meeting and sends invites to guests. That is "Others affected", so its setting applies, not the one for "Nobody else affected".

When a step needs a person, it goes to Manual actions. You do the step and record it as done. Recording it neither repeats the step nor creates a rule.

After enough recorded responses, Harny may suggest a change to a setting, for example from "Ask the user first" to "Act without asking". These are "Learned settings". They are suggestions. You apply one or keep the current setting.

Getting there

  1. Open Actions in the console.
  2. Open Automation, then Permissions. Choose a setting for each of the four kinds.
  3. Watch Activity to see every run and what your agent did.
  4. Check Manual actions for steps routed to a person, and record each one as done.
  5. Open Learning to review suggested changes. Use Instructions to save a request to your coding assistant. It is a request, not an active rule.

Frequently asked questions

01What happens if my agent tries something with no setting?

The action is not carried out. A kind with no setting chosen stays off until you choose one.

02What is the difference between Manual actions and Ask the user first?

"Ask the user first" sends the question to the user in your app, and your agent goes ahead if they say yes. Manual actions are steps routed to a person on your side, which you record as done.

03Can I undo a learned change?

Yes, while the change can still be returned. Restoring puts the earlier setting back for future actions. It does not undo actions already done. A learned setting covers the whole app for that kind, and it is built from recorded responses, not model training.

04Does Harny decide what my agent does?

No. Your agent decides. Harny carries out the step within the permission and rules you set.

05Where is the record?

In Actions › Activity. Every action is on the record: what was instructed, by which agent, for which user, under which permission, what happened and what failed. A user can revoke access at any time.

06Does it cost extra?

Harny meters monthly-active end users, not actions. The plans are on the pricing page.
