Knowledge update

A knowledge update is a fact that changes: the budget moves from 32k to 40k, the plan is upgraded, the meeting moves to Friday.

What a knowledge update is

A memory system handles an update correctly when a question about the current value returns the new one, and a question about an earlier date returns the old one.

Why it is hard

  • Similar text matches both values, so search returns both.
  • A record without an event time cannot say which came last.
  • Backfilled history arrives in one batch, so arrival order is not event order.

How it works

  1. Harny takes a fact with a date.
  2. Sending a changed value with a newer date replaces the current value.
  3. Recall returns the current value, and as-of recall (queryTimestamp) returns the earlier value by date, leaving out evidence newer than the moment asked about.

Does Harny keep the old value?

Yes. Recall returns the current value with its date, and the earlier value stays answerable by date.
