Long job

A long job is an AI agent run that works through many files or steps in one session. It runs with a bigger budget than a normal turn, and limits cap it.

What long job is

A long job is a single agent task that runs for many model calls and a long time. The agent reads files in a working folder and makes changes.

The run is bounded by a budget of model calls, time, and turns, so it does not run without end.

Why it matters

  • A large task, such as reviewing many documents, needs more steps than one reply allows.
  • Longer runs cost more model usage, so limits and budgets matter.
  • The agent needs a clear folder and clear limits to avoid unbounded work.

How it works in Harny

  • One agent works through many files in a folder for up to 3,600 seconds per turn, on the business's own model key.
  • It is off by default. Set it with LongTaskConfig in the SDK. Defaults are 100 model calls and 3,600 seconds per turn.

Is a long job on by default?

No. Long jobs are off by default. You turn them on with LongTaskConfig in the SDK.
