Long-term memory
Long-term memory is memory that lasts beyond one conversation or one context window.
What it is
A model's context window holds one conversation. Long-term memory holds what should survive it: who the user is, what they decided and what changed.
What to ask of it
- That it stays accurate as facts change.
- That it keeps each user's memory private.
- That an answer can be traced to a dated source.
Is a larger context window long-term memory?
No. A larger window holds more of one conversation. It does not keep facts between conversations or say which value is current.
