Memory for Flowise agents
This page shows how to add Harny memory to a Flowise agent with two Custom Tool nodes.
What the framework does not keep
- Which value is current. When a person changes a value, such as Nadia at Acme moving the Acme pilot budget from 32k to 40k, Harny treats the value with the newer timestamp as current and keeps the earlier value answerable by date.
- When a fact happened. You send a timestamp (ISO 8601 with zone) with each memory, so the agent can answer what was true on March 14.
- One person across sources. Harny keeps a private memory for each person, addressed by your id such as demo-user.
The pattern: a custom tool
You create a Custom Tool node named recall_memory with one input, question, and paste the function into it. The function calls POST /v1/memory/recall from the Flowise server with your app key and the user id. You create a second Custom Tool for ingest the same way. It calls POST /v1/memory/ingest to send new content.
You store the app key and the user id as Flowise variables. The model supplies only the question. The key and the user id come from the variables, and the function sends the user id in the X-Harny-User header.
// Custom Tool "recall_memory", input schema: question (string)
const response = await fetch("https://api.harny.ai/v1/memory/recall", {
method: "POST",
headers: {
Authorization: `Bearer ${$vars.harnyAppKey}`,
"X-Harny-User": $vars.userId,
"Content-Type": "application/json",
},
body: JSON.stringify({ query: $question, identity: $vars.userId }),
});
return await response.text();What recall returns
Memory results with dated sources and source labels. Results carry sources with the source id, the date it happened and a label.
POST https://api.harny.ai/v1/memory/ingesttakesid,content,labelandtimestamp.POST https://api.harny.ai/v1/memory/recalltakesqueryandidentity, and returns results withsources.
Example: your agent asks “what is the Acme pilot budget?” and gets this back. Your code hands the model the content and the source label, so it can say who said it and when.

}When to use which
- Use Flowise's own state for what it does within a flow: the current conversation and the steps of the run.
- Add Harny when the agent must remember a person across sessions, tell which value is current, or answer what was true on a date.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a package to use Harny in Flowise?
No. The Custom Tool function calls the Memory API at https://api.harny.ai/v1/memory over HTTP, and you paste the function into the tool.
Where does the user id come from?
It is your own id for the person, such as demo-user. You store it as a Flowise variable and the function sends it in the X-Harny-User header, so end users need no Harny account.
Go on. Get Harny.
The first 500 monthly-active end users are free for good. Create an app key and make your first call in minutes.
