Data provenance

Data provenance is the record of where a piece of data came from and how it got into a system. It lets you check which source a stored fact rests on.

What data provenance is

Data provenance tracks the origin of each piece of data. It records the source, the date it was captured, and the path it took before it was used.

For AI agents, provenance shows which source a remembered fact rests on, so the agent and the owner can check it.

Why it matters

  • It lets you trace an answer back to the source it came from.
  • It helps you find and fix facts that came from a wrong or outdated source.
  • It supports erasing data that came from a particular source.

How it works in Harny

  • Each recall result lists the sources its memory rests on.
  • Each source carries a sourceId, a date (occurredAt) and a label.
  • You can delete a data point by its sourceId, and the memories built on it go with it.
