Data retention
Data retention is how long data is kept before it is deleted. For AI agents and memory, it covers how long a stored fact, conversation or user record stays available before someone removes it.
What data retention is
Data retention sets the lifetime of stored data. An agent that remembers a person keeps those memories until a rule or a person removes them.
The rule can be a fixed period, a manual deletion, or the end of a user's account.
Why it matters
- Old data can be wrong, so it needs review or removal.
- Personal data may need to be erased on request.
- Keeping data longer than needed raises the amount to protect.
How it works in Harny
- You decide what to send to Harny. You delete a data point with
DELETE /v1/memory/data-points/{sourceId}, and the memories built on it are deleted too. - Bulk delete takes up to 1,000 ids. To erase a person, call
DELETE /v1/users/{user_id}/data. - Deletes are free.
How do I delete data in Harny?
Call DELETE /v1/memory/data-points/{sourceId} for a data point, with up to 1,000 ids in a bulk delete, or DELETE /v1/users/{user_id}/data to erase a person. Deletes are free.
