Episodic memory

Episodic memory is memory of specific events, each tied to when it happened, such as a call or an email. An AI agent uses it to recall what occurred and when.

What episodic memory is

Episodic memory stores individual events as separate records. Each record says what happened and when it happened.

An agent can use these records to answer questions like what was said on a call last week.

Why it matters

  • It keeps the order and timing of events, not only the current state.
  • Dated events let an agent see that a value changed over time.
  • Events must be kept apart so an old event is not mistaken for a new one.

How it works in Harny

  • Harny stores each event as one data point with its timestamp.
  • You recall events by date range or as of a given time.

Is episodic memory the same as a summary?

No. A summary combines events. Episodic memory keeps each event with its date.
