Manual action
A manual action is a step that a person must do outside the AI agent, such as a phone call, a signature, granting access, or making a judgment call. It marks the point where the agent cannot finish the work alone and a human has to act.
What manual action is
An AI agent works through tasks by itself until a step needs something it cannot do. That step is a manual action. The agent stops at that step and hands it to a person.
The agent hands off the step with POST /v1/handoffs. The owner then does the step outside Harny.
Why it matters
- It keeps the agent from guessing at steps only a person can complete.
- Each completed step is a one-time fix. It does not change how the agent behaves next time.
How it works in Harny
- The agent hands off the step, and the owner marks it complete with
POST /v1/handoffs/{id}/resolve. - The agent is told when the step is marked complete. You find manual actions in the console under Actions > Manual actions.
Does completing a manual action change how the agent acts?
No. Completing a manual action does not create a rule. Permission settings are separate.
